I was in a bit of an industrious mood today. One of the projects I have been avoiding is pulling up all the 12×12 vinyl tiles and then the old linoleum flooring in the utility and half bath. I need to remove this old flooring so that I can put down the in floor heating and then a mastic layer before the new floor. I knew this job was going to suck so I didn’t have a lot of motivation. So today I sat down with the heat gun and a putty knife to start pulling back the flooring the best I could. I quit after only 30 minutes and 7 tiles removed.
Here is what I learned. When your heat gun goes to 1100 degrees and you are heating up the vinyl tiles, if those super heated tiles and glue fall on your finger, it can remove the skin from said finger.
There has to be a better way to do this job.

one thing I’ve learned from video games is that if you can’t kill it with fire, kill it with ice.
Try freezing and shattering it.
If that doesn’t work, maybe just a flat bladed shovel.
I know, not much use, but it’s all I got.
My luck I would freeze the floor hit it with a hammer and everything would shatter and I would find myself in the basement!
I saw some chemicals on line that apparently does number on the vinyl and you can just use a scraper and the stuff just peels off. Now I just have to find that jug of chemicals.
Let’s wait until we can open some windows before we chemicals that eat linoleum involved.
You should have put that aunt and uncle who visited to work.
